9:30 – 10:45 a.m. Internal Oversight: Institutional Accountability for Eliminating Sexual Violence [Transcript]

Reliable internal monitoring of both incidents and routine functions is a key part of running any correctional or detention facility. Panelists will discuss the ways that facilities perform these functions, and the particular considerations of reporting and monitoring of sexual violence and its prevention.

11:00 – 12:30 p.m. External Oversight: The Outside World’s Responsibility to Prevent and Respond to Sexual Violence [Transcript]

In addition to effective internal oversight systems, various external entities have legal and ethical obligations to ensure the prevention and reduction of sexual violence in correctional settings. Panelists will discuss examples of external oversight – both formal and informal – by various governmental and non-governmental actors, highlighting their pros and cons and the ways in which they improve and complement internal oversight systems.
