In October the BRC went to Finland, primarily to investigate the social and political forces that led to the solution to build a deep geological repository in which to store their high level nuclear waste.

The BRC held a public meeting in Helsinki, and also the town of Eurajoki which is located close to the nuclear complex and repository.  The BRC toured the ONKALO site which is being built for rock characterization for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel, and saw (but were not able to enter) the tunnel at Okiluoto that leads to the final underground disposal site.
