Op-ed: Even one child-abuse death is too many

Last week we learned of the untimely passing of 2-year-old James Sieger Jr. While the death of a child is always a tragedy, the preventable death of a child as the result of horrific abuse is unacceptable.

Utah has one of the lowest annual rates of child abuse and neglect fatalities in the nation, and still, last year our state lost seven children due to maltreatment. Five of those children were under the age of 3. One child was only 7 weeks old.
