Policy Compliance
The CIO of each Federal agency, department, or bureau is responsible for meeting the policy and regulatory goals of their organization and the Federal Government. Relevant laws include:
  • The E-Government Act of 2002
  • Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA)
  • Confidential Information Protection and Statistical Efficiency Act of 2002 (CIPSEA)
  • Government Paperwork Elimination Act of 1998 (GPEA)
  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d), as amended by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (P.L. 105-220)
  • Clinger-Cohen Act of 1996
  • Freedom of Information Act of 1996 (FOIA)
  • Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (PRA)


Evaluate and optimize investments in government resources, including systems, networks, knowledge warehouses, and support services.

 
Document every action carried out in the service of the American people, in accordance with the principles of openness, transparency, and accountability.

 
Optimize acquisition of goods and services.

 
Inventory, classify, maintain, safeguard, and store information according to accurate classification standards; establish timelines for publishing records online in a machine-readable format.

 
Create the highest model of excellence in all policies and actions.
