The Federal Government is leveraging IT strategies to operate more efficiently. As the world’s largest consumer of information technology, spending over $76 billion annually, it is vital that the government achieves the productivity and performance gains found when IT is deployed in the private sector. By undertaking efforts such as the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative and leveraging technologies such as cloud computing, the government is working to improve performance and lower the cost of its operations.


Review the potential for shifting to distant servers for data storage and management in all new and major investments.

 
Make use of enterprise-wide contracts to maximize buying power and save taxpayer dollars.

 
Consolidate technologies, such as data centers, to reduce costs.

 
Turn around or terminate poorly performing IT projects to prevent ineffective spending.
