Obama's foreign policy will get us in trouble

By Letters to the Editor

February 16, 2011, 12:50AM
The media has compared President Obama to FDR, JFK, Lincoln and Reagan. In reality, he most closely resembles Carter. Obama and his cohorts in the mainstream media, whom I refer to as the American Pravda, are whitewashing the dangers of the Muslim Brotherhood taking over Egypt and turning it into a hard-line Islamic state. It’s deja vu as we... Full story »

Obama's 2012 budget proposal would cut heating assistance

barack Obama 5

By KARI ANDREN, The Patriot-News

February 14, 2011, 9:59PM
President Barack Obama's 2012 budget proposal dealt a blow to low-income Pennsylvanians on Monday. Programs that help people pay their heating bills, train for a job and find affordable housing and child care would be cut in half under the $3.7 trillion budget Obama sent to Congress. Lawmakers are almost certain to seek major changes. Advocates for social service... Full story »

Obama serves a purpose

By Letters to the Editor

January 22, 2011, 12:34AM
President Obama is great. Not only great, he's the greatest president of all time. Not only that, he's the world's bravest leader ever. No, he's the greatest person ever. Every single bank and hotel should be named after Obama. Our money should have only one face --- Barack Obama. Mr. Obama should be the only face on Mount Rushmore. Obama... Full story »

Nation of Sudan's woes have far-reaching effects

By Letters to the Editor

January 19, 2011, 12:40AM
As a concerned activist, I worry about the lives that have been disrupted by decades of violence. What happens in Sudan matters here in Pennsylvania because the effects of mass violence have far-reaching repercussions that are felt for generations. So, I’d like our congressional representatives and senators to urge the Obama administration to keep focusing on Sudan. EDNA KUMLER,... Full story »

Can President Obama get back on track?

GOP_and_Obama.JPG

By Patriot-News Op-Ed

January 15, 2011, 11:00AM
BY E. FLETCHER McCLELLAN An unusual calm descended upon Washington this week in the aftermath of the tragic events in Tucson, Ariz. Horrified by the shooting of a member of Congress who was meeting her constituents, leaders of both parties pledged to conduct the nation’s business in a more civil manner. While it would be nice to think that an... Full story »

Give Obama a chance to reach a consensus

By Letters to the Editor

January 04, 2011, 12:48AM
I'm getting sick of the outrage on the left about the deal on tax cuts and unemployment that President Obama brokered. There is a dirty little secret about Obama that is neither dirty nor a secret. We moderates voted for Obama because he said he'd work to get past ideology and partisanship. The right accused him of being a socialist... Full story »

Obama lacks grit

By Letters to the Editor

December 20, 2010, 12:10AM
What I witnessed in a recent White House news conference should make everybody shutter in fear for their country. When a president is not willing and equipped (TelePrompTer) to deal with issues and hard questions and must bring in a previous president to do his bidding and salesmanship, the public should be concerned. Of course, this president has never... Full story »

Poll: 69% of Pennsylvania voters support the tax cut deal pending in Congress

By KARI ANDREN, The Patriot-News

December 16, 2010, 12:48PM
Nearly 70 percent of Pennsylvania voters say they support the tax cut deal negotiated between President Barack Obama and Congressional Republicans, according to a poll released today. The Quinnipiac University survey found that voters support the deal 69-24, with support highest (72 percent) among Republicans and independents while 66 percent of Democrats said they approve. The poll of 1,584... Full story »

Boxing analogy fits Obama's situation

By Letters to the Editor

December 16, 2010, 12:50AM
One of boxing's most enduring classics was the epic battle waged by Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas "Hit Man" Hearns. Between rounds in this championship welterweight fight, legendary corner man Angelo Dundee said to a beaten down and swollen-eyed Leonard "You're blowin' it, kid." A boxing analogy and metaphor is entirely appropriate when discussing Obama's latest dustup with his base... Full story »

RENDELL FOR PRESIDENT!

By Scott Roberts

December 15, 2010, 10:45PM
Run Ed run! Former crusading District Attorney, Mayor of Philadelphia, and two-term governor of the Commonwealth; who better to challenge the seemingly weak, appeasing Barack Obama and give the Democratic party renewed vision and leadership? What other Democratic politician is comfortable in both gay bars and deer camps?ˇ How many other career politicians can passionately discourse on both national infrastructure... Full story »

Obama needed to fight

By Letters to the Editor

December 12, 2010, 12:50AM
After the ridiculous theater displayed by Congress, President Obama has caved in. He was eloquent and conciliatory in announcing a bipartisan deal has been reached to extend the Bush tax cuts for another two years in “exchange” for extending the unemployment insurance for 13 months. Obama lost the chance to stand firm without compromising his dignity. Nothing can justify... Full story »

Advocate for intellectual disabled

By Letters to the Editor

December 11, 2010, 12:55AM
Individuals with intellectual disabilities strive for human rights and equality in 2010. In October, the Obama administration signed a bill to replace the hurtful words “mental retardation” with “individuals with intellectual disability.” They are individuals first. The federal government is finally recognizing this fact. The intellectual disabled community needs advocates to fight for additional funding for community-based services and... Full story »

Handshake tells a lot about a candidate

By Letters to the Editor

December 02, 2010, 12:50AM
Try as I might, I could not bring myself to vote for U.S. Senate candidates Joe Sestak or Pat Toomey or candidates Tom Corbett or Dan Onorato for governor. I just couldn’t punch the computer screen on anyone’s behalf. Negative campaigns are the reason, of course. Even though Sestak did Pennsylvanians a favor by ridding us of Arlen Specter,... Full story »

What about Arizona?

Airport pat downs

By Letters to the Editor

November 30, 2010, 12:35AM
During the 10 days leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday, President Obama’s TSA was telling us the airport pat downs were not as embarrassing nor as intrusive as we had been led to believe. Then, last week, the White Housed announced Cabinet secretaries are exempt from this practice. Wonder why? JACK SCHMIDT, Hampden Twp.  Full story »

Use your right to vote; it's important that we all do

By Letters to the Editor

November 29, 2010, 12:35AM
Thanks for printing Harold Piety's excellent letter ("Did American people really repudiate Obama?") in The Patriot-News (Nov. 21). I would add that when an elected leader of this country states that the broken system which is the U.S. health care system is "the finest in the world" he's not to be taken seriously. When you live in a democracy and... Full story »

Obama's radical agenda

By Letters to the Editor

November 26, 2010, 1:01AM
How is the first civilian trial for terrorists working out for the president? Thanks to his decision, Islamic terrorist Ahmed Ghailani was cleared of all charges, but one, in the 1998 bombings of our two African embassies that resulted in the death of more than 200 innocent people, 12 of whom were Americans. Running this country hasn't quite turned out... Full story »

Obama's Asia trip

By Letters to the Editor

November 23, 2010, 12:40AM
There were many stories of President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama meeting with, talking with and dancing with children and students in India. I did not see their daughters, Malia and Sasha, in any of the photos that were published. I guess they were the ones who were meeting with the heads of state and industry leaders... Full story »
