Mapping the Response

GeoPlatform.gov/gulfresponse is a new online mapping tool that provides you with near-real time information about the response effort. Developed by NOAA with the EPA, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Department of the Interior, the site provides users with an expansive, detailed geographic picture of spill response information.

The site integrates the latest data the federal responders have about the oil spill's trajectory such as fishery area closures, wildlife data, pinpointed locations of oiled shoreline, satellite imagery and weather information,  current positions of deployed research ships and much more - into one customizable interactive map.  The volume of data available on this site will continue to grow in the coming days and weeks.

NASA has posted recent satellite and aerial imagery of the spill including a video showing the gulf oil spill over time.

Data.gov Resources

As a priority Open Government Initiative of the Obama administration, Data.gov increases the ability of the public to easily find, download, and use datasets that are generated and held by the federal government. Data.gov provides descriptions of the federal datasets (metadata), information about how to access the datasets, and tools that leverage government datasets.

A special section has been developed for the data materials generated for and by the Deepwater Response Incident. To access these data, please visit data.gov/restorethegulf/.

The Department of Energy is providing online access to schematics, pressure tests, diagnostic results and other data about the malfunctioning blowout preventer.
