The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission will hold a public hearing in Las Vegas Sept. 8 to hear from "people on the ground" about how the financial and economic crisis has affected their communities, the commission announced Thursday.

The list of entities and witnesses to testify in Las Vegas has not yet been released.

Las Vegas businesswoman Heather Murren, wife of MGM Resorts CEO Jim Murren, is a member of the 10-member bipartisan commission.

The commission is holding a series of public hearings this year on topics that include too big to fail financial institutions, subprime lending practices, government-sponsored enterprises and credit rating agencies.

The commission's findings and conclusions are scheduled to be presented to Congress and President Barack Obama in a formal report on Dec. 15. To learn more about the commission, visit its website.
