Secretary Salazar and Commissioner Connor Visit Texas, Tour World's Largest Inland Desalination Plant and Showcase Successful Water Projects in El Paso
- On Wednesday, Jan. 4th, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Michael Connor joined Representative Silvestre Reyes for a tour of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Desalination Plant, the world's largest inland desalination plant which produces 27.5 million gallons of fresh water on a daily basis. Following the tour, Salazar and attendees met with irrigation stakeholders and heard how the Federal government can better support successful water conservation, supply, and delivery efforts across the state. Aerial Electromagnetic Survey over Paradox Valley, Colorado - Over a seven-day period in October 2011, an aerial geophysical survey was conducted by SkyTEM Surveys in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey in an area over the Paradox Valley, Colo., and a small area in San Juan County, Utah. Water Contracting Draft Releases Reissued for Public Comment - The Bureau of Reclamation has reissued for public comment four draft Reclamation Manual releases regarding water-related contracting activities. These draft releases provide definitions of key terms and revise existing definitions for water-related contracts, restructure and clarify Reclamation's water transfer and conversion policy and consolidate and set-out basic pricing requirements for water-related contracts. Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project - The Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project is a major infrastructure project that once constructed, will convey a reliable municipal and industrial water supply from the San Juan River to the eastern section of the Navajo Nation, southwestern portion of the Jicarilla Apache Nation, and the city of Gallup, New Mexico via about 280 miles of pipeline, 24 pumping plants, and two water treatment plants. In addition, on October 11, the Obama Administration announced the selection of 14 infrastructure projects to be expedited through the permitting and environmental review process including the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project.
