FRAMES Geographic Areas

Within the FRAMES Geographic Areas, wildland fire content is aggregated at a geographic level relevant to wildland fire management. The FRAMES Geographic Areas correspond to the boundaries of the 11 Geographic Area Coordinating Centers (GACC) designated by the National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC). However, please note that we have combined the California North Ops GACC and the California South Ops GACC into the California Fire Portal, and have also combined the West Basin GACC and the East Basin GACC into the Great Basin Fire Portal (resulting in 9 geographic area fire portals).

Each FRAMES geographic area fire portal provides an opportunity for collaboration between researchers and managers located within that particular region. FRAMES is working with regional researchers and managers, including some of the JFSP-funded regional Knowledge Exchange Consortia, to provide access to geographically-based and nationally relevant data, documents, and tools.

FRAMES and the JFSP Regional Knowledge Exchange Consortia

The Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP) is developing a national network to accelerate the awareness, understanding, and adoption of wildland fire science information within ecologically similar regions.

JFSP consortia map

FRAMES is providing web support for the Alaska Fire Science Consortium and the Southern Rockies Fire Science Network, and is providing the Southwest Fire Science Consortium with customized access to the FRAMES Resource Cataloging System. FRAMES is also archiving some of the webinars hosted by the consortia.
