What is the National Fisheries Data Infrastructure?
The NFDI is an online resource which maps the presence of fish species across the United States.

Why develop the NFDI?
The NFDI brings local and regional fisheries data and species information together to one nationwide resource. This framework provides fisheries managers, decision-makers, and partners of the National Fish Habitat Action Plan with a mechanism that will enable a consolidated view of fish presence at a national level.

What databases are part of the NFDI?
At the launch of the NFDI, four databases were included: Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture, Multistate Aquatic Resources Information System (MARIS), Sturgeon Information Infrastructure, and the American Fisheries Society Western Native Fishes Database. As of September 2010, the information from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Fisheries Information System Populations Module is also included. Continued expansion is planned as new datasets are made available to be incorporated into NFDI.

What can I do with the NFDI?
Users can query the NFDI by species, by Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) watershed, or by state. Query results can be exported to a text file or viewed on a map.
