Gridded Population of the World, version 3 (GPWv3) and the Global Rural-Urban Mapping Project, version 1 (GRUMPv1) are two gridded global population maps produced using different methods at different spatial resolutions. GRUMPv1 also provides an urban extents grid and a map of settlements with populations greater than 5,000 persons. To learn more about these products, visit Which Product to Use.

This interactive mapper above provides a preview of selected Gridded Population of the World (GPWv3) data sets. To calculate the population totals within a user-defined region, use our Population Estimation Service. For more advanced visualization and overlay with other related data sets, you may use the stand-alone SEDAC Map Client.
GPWv3 depicts the distribution of human population across the globe. GRUMPv1 builds on GPWv3 by incorporating urban and rural information, allowing new insights into urban population distribution and the global extents of human settlements. GPWv3 and GRUMPv1 provide globally consistent and spatially explicit human population information and data for use in research, policy making, and communications. For more information on these data products, see the About page.
We appreciate user feedback, including copies of published papers and maps that use our data; please review the Data Usage Policy.
