I can think of the perfect cat for Mrs Slocombe's pussy.

And no Mr Cameron. We are definitely not being served.

Come to my office and we'll discuss some really big discounts away from the ear of the public ....

Want a bank - going cheap?

How about a brand new Olympic Village at half cost price?

Call-Me's 'economy elevator' for the general public only works one way and that's down (and out).

However, if you're a member of Call-Me's "We're all in it together" club or part of the feral-elite 1%, you'll be able to nab some real bargains, at literally throw away prices, on the way to your offshore tax haven.

And still, according to the polls, the British public think he is Mr Wonderful. Makes you think doesn't it? Maybe the majority of British people are masochists or maybe they just like the idea of being a bargain basement country with lots of bankrupt sales going on - everything must go and the sooner Cameron, Osborne, and Clegg are given the boot, the better it will be for the vast majority of working people in this country. The fact is that it doesn't have to be like this.

    Next stop down, Chilean miners
.A collection of people trapped in a dark, desperate situation with little hope of immediate salvation and being kept going on the bare minimum.
Oh, wait, that is this level, delete Chilean miners, its the British economy after all.

Typical of this inept Tory Gov with a Chancellor of the Exchequer whose qualifications are a 2.1 in towel folding.

    Yes, Everything for 1 Pound!

You will no doubt be pleased to learn that Poundland is doing its bit in helping to train our future workforce.

Cait Reilly, 22, is completing three weeks at Poundland, working five hours a day. Reilly, who graduated last year with a BSc in geology from Birmingham University, found herself with five other JSA claimants last week stacking and cleaning shelves at Poundland in south Birmingham.

She says there are about 15 other staff at the store but, unlike them, she will receive no remuneration for her work. "It seems we're being used as some free labour, especially in the runup to Christmas."

    Yes Guv
49% of the beds in your local hospital trust, going for a song. What's that guv? Why is honest Dave flogging it? Well, stands to reason don't it? Government spent too much on wars 'n banks. Did you say you want it unencumbered by PFI debt? Say no more, guv, I knew you weren't daft enough to fall for that one. Tell you what guv, we'll increase the unencumbered status - no unemployed, no working class, no immigrants - Oh and we'll throw in automatic credit card checkers at the entrance. And we'll replace Lansley's ugly mug on the pay for TV screens cos we'll give you free TV with my face will appear on every vacant screen. Well guv I seem to be the only acceptable face of the Tory party. People love me guv, honest!

Now just write out a cheque for 49% but payments will be staged. 24% now and 25% for when I leave office.

Not just Poundland - Tescos, Asda and Sainsburys amongst others. It's not rocket science to assume that Finance Directors are rubbing their hands in glee at the thought of a continual pool of 'employees', all paid for by the Government, that will enable them to phase out staff on temporary contracts.

So an individual, on a contract with some employment rights, may find themselves back at their old job working for their JSA, . Is this the Big Society in action that Cameron whittered on about in the run up the GE?At the higher rate of £67.50 that works out at £2.25 for thirty hours, and there's no travel allowance.

Profiteering on the back of someone else's misfortune is bad enough, that it's state sanctioned and swelling the coffers of already profitable firms is abhorrent.

The only thing it makes me think is that the British public don't have the sense they were born with.

I wonder if there are any half-price aircraft carriers available, they will be useful soon for the next Middle Eastern fascist folly (Although I don't think aircraft are included in the sales)?

I think it is more the case that people are sso alienated from politics now, they really don 't give a monkeys any more. As long as it does not impinge on their life, it 's something that happens to someone else so they just absorb what the media tells them. Lots of people moan about prices etc but they just shrug and so on.

Ouch! I didn't know that Poundland was undertaking its mission with so much zeal.

The employment minister, Chris Grayling, has defended the scheme, saying: "Our work experience scheme is proving to be a big success with over half of young people leaving benefits after they have completed their placement. It is not mandatory but, once someone agrees to take part, we expect them to turn up or they will have their benefits stopped.

"Work experience will give young people a real taste of the work environment and act as a stepping stone into a career. And it's working."

Carefully crafted, weasel words. I'm sad that young people have to go through this.

So, to earn a pound or two, its better being out on the street, selling 'Big Issue'.

@EconomicDeterminist £1.68 in 1983 - worth around £4.00 now? Not a bad deal the Government's negotiated with all those company's who've signed up to the scheme.

@agreewith - perhaps the Government could agree terms for a 'bogoff' deal? :)

Forget Britain - we should from now on be called 'Made in China'.......

"George Osborne’s hopes of persuading the private sector and foreign investors to help rebuild Britain’s ageing infrastructure have received a boost as China Investment Corporation, the country’s $410bn sovereign wealth fund, announced plans for new investment in the UK.

Mr Osborne and Treasury officials have long sought additional investment from China as a source of finance for new road, rail, broadband and energy projects. British officials say the proposed high-speed rail link from London to the north of England has attracted Chinese attention.

In his article, Mr Lou suggested Chinese companies and investors wanted to own and operate infrastructure in the west as well as help build it.
“Now infrastructure in Europe and the US badly needs more investment,” Mr Lou wrote. “Traditionally, Chinese involvement in overseas infrastructure projects has just been as contractors. Now Chinese investors also see a need to invest in, develop and operate projects.”"
    FT 28 Nov,11

Although Osbourne failed to mention that this investment comes at a price and the price paid in interest on Chinese bonds will be at a rate similar to that which Greece was paying which he used to criticize.

And the latest from China - Osbourne's miracle cure for his failed policies....

"In comments published by the authorities yesterday, Mr Wen said the first three months of 2012 would be "relatively difficult" and that "the market is relatively cold – that's the core of current problems".
The slowdown in both Europe and the US has hit China, which is heavily dependant on exports. At the same time, Beijing is anxious to avoid reigniting inflation, which hit a three year high of 6.5pc in July but has since slowed to 4.2pc. "We face problems of weakening external demand and rising costs for companies," Mr Wen said. "We are now in a situation where pressure from an economic downturn and high prices both exist."
    DT

    Hmmm.

G'evening LaC, even our First Minister has been on a trade mission to China, and as you say, they're experiencing a slow down due to the contraction of world markets. With nothing left of material value to sell off the only way to attract Chinese investment will be by offering grants and low interest loans, but as it's a buyers market and so many others will be desperate to attract the Chinese Yuan Gideon may have to negotiate his bond offer, especially if S&P carry out their threat to downgrade our AAA status.

Thought this was a bit scary when I saw it a couple of months ago, 'Who owes what to whom'.

Wish they'd shown the stats for China.
