New Federal Strategy for Chesapeake region

A new federal strategy for the Chesapeake Bay focuses on protecting and restoring the 64,000-square-mile watershed, including thousands of streams, creeks and rivers.  The strategy was developed under the executive order issued by President Obama in May 2009, which declared the Chesapeake Bay a national treasure and called on the federal government to lead a renewed effort to restore and protect the nation's largest estuary and its watershed.

Seven Bay jurisdictions -- Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia -- are covered by the "Strategy for Protecting and Restoring the Chesapeake Bay Watershed."
