Community and Outreach Programs

Community and outreach programs provide opportunities for concerned citizens to volunteer and become 'Citizen Scientists' participating in early detection, rapid assessment, and rapid response activities for managing invasive species. As the list below grows, you can search for groups operating in your area by typing the name of your state into the Search field at the top of the list or search for groups that work on particular species such as English ivy (Hedera helix) or groups of species such as 'Weed Watcher' groups.

  * We need to know about your group. If you know about invasive species community and outreach programs that you think should be included in this list, please contact Annie Simpson (asimpson@usgs.gov) or Elizabeth Sellers (esellers@usgs.gov).

Description: From website: "Aquatic invasive species (AIS) are plants, animals and microscopic organisms that have caused serious problems in aquatic ecosystems outside of their native range. These species threaten the biodiversity and function of the Great Lakes ecosystem. Michigan Sea Grant supports research, outreach and education to prevent new introductions of AIS into the Great Lakes and control the spread of established AIS populations."
