Education and Professional Background:

Thesis title "Effects of mulching and fertilization on ecological interactions between soil microbes, plants, herbivores and mycorrhizal fungi of paper birch in topsoil and inverted subsoil profiles"

Responsibilities:

Joe is the Integrated Pest Management and Forest Health Coordinator at the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health at the University of Georgia. He graduated from Ohio State University in 2001 with a Bachelors of Science in Urban Forestry and in 2004 with a Master’s of Science in Plant Pathology and Entomology. Before coming to UGA, LaForest was the pest manager of Dow Gardens in Midland, Michigan and worked to further develop their adult education programs. He is a Certified Arborist in the International Society of Arboriculture and has worked in various parts of the green industry for the last 13 years. His interests include promoting holistic plant health care through development of integrated pest management solutions, developing resources to be used in educating and assisting green industry workers, and teaching. His current duties at CISEH include administration of the Bugwood Image Database System, verifying taxonomy, photographer relations and developing other educational resources such as the BugwoodWiki.
