    HONOLULU (Jan. 1, 2012) – President Obama and his family paid a New Year’s Day visit to the East-West Center to view an exhibition on the anthropological field work that the president’s late mother, Ann Dunham, conducted in Indonesia. The family also visited the Center’s well-known Japanese garden, where the family held a memorial for Dunham after she passed away in 1995. ...more...

  • HONOLULU (Jan. 6, 2012) -- The East-West Center has received two grants totaling $970,000 from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to support the U.S.- Timor-Leste and U.S.- South Pacific Scholarship Programs over a five year period.

EWC Launches Australia Matters for America Initiative

424 The East-West Center, in collaboration with the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, recently launched the Australia Matters for America initiative. The initiative comprises a publication and website that provide a one-stop, on-going source of information, data, news, and analysis on Australia-U.S. relations. The website will host new information, reports and events in the Australia-U.S. Alliance and bilateral partnership.

This collaborative project is part of the East-West Center's Asia Matters for America(AMA) initiative, which serves as a hub for American and Asian audiences to explore the importance and impact of Asia in the United States by State and Congressional District. AMA provides government, academia, civil society, media and business with an interactive website that graphically displays useful trends and accurate data on how Asia matters at the U.S. state and local level.  Other on-going projects that are part of the East-West Center’s AMA initiative include: ASEAN Matters for America, Japan Matters for America, and Korea Matters for AmericaLinks to periodic updates from each of these Websites can also be found on the East-West Center’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
