Badlands National Park strives to provide high quality curriculum-based educational material for teachers, parents, and students of all grade levels. The resources of Badlands National Park are ideal for exploring topics in many content areas such as earth science, life science, and social studies. 

Badlands National Park contains one of the most complete Oligocene fossil assemblages in North America. The forces of deposition and erosion have shaped this beautiful and foreboding landscape. The park also contains one of the largest mixed-grass prairie ecosystems in North America. It has hosted successful wildlife restoration programs for the black-footed ferret, bison, bighorn sheep and swift fox. There is much to discover in the Badlands!

25% of Badlands National Park is a designated wilderness area. Established in 1976, the Badlands Wilderness Area consists of 64,144 acres of the largest prairie wilderness in the United States. Administered in two units, Sage Creek and Conata Basin, the area is open for backpacking and exploration.
