Established in 1964 by an act of Congress, the Montana Water Center advances water research, information, education, and problem-solving partnerships throughout the state of Montana and beyond. Montana's landscape is dotted with more than 10,000 lakes and reservoirs, and thousands of smaller wetlands, stock ponds, and other water bodies. Glaciers created many of these features such as Eastern Montana's prairie potholes.
