TO THE AMPHIBIAN HOME PAGE FOR THE INTERMOUNTAIN REGION OF THE FOREST SERVICE.
Amphibians (toads, frogs, newts, and salamanders) appear to be declining world wide. To see if this trend is true in the Intermountain Region, biologist are conducting surveys. Each NATIONAL FOREST is doing amphibian research and monitoring. OTHER WORK IS BEING CONDUCTED in the West on amphibians. Check out the new amphibian website of the Lost River Ranger District at http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/sc/lostriver/fishwildlife/amphibian.html.
Thus far, a total of 19 species of amphibians have been recorded in Region 4 in six different AMPHIBIAN FAMILIES. The amphibian family page is a key to the different families of amphibians with representative silhouettes, key characteristics, and typical illustrations. The family list connects to individual species descriptions, status, life history, and range maps. You are able to listen to the different calls of the frogs and toads in Region 4.
If you've seen a species not previously
recorded in Region 4, or if you've observed one of the recorded species
in a new location based on the range maps, we encourage you to complete
and submit the AMPHIBIAN OBSERVATION FORM.
