Hudson Basin River Watch (HBRW) works to improve the water quality of the Hudson River and all its tributaries through education, community involvement, and stewardship. HBRW provides hands-on science education programs to schools and stream monitoring workshops to environmental organizations, individuals, and agencies. Starting in 1990 with 4 schools HBRW has grown to include over 100 schools and organizations from the Adirondack headwaters to the lower estuary of New York's Hudson River. Teachers, students, and community partners monitor the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of the Hudson and its tributaries. Analysis of the water-quality data, the presentation of the findings at annual congresses, and submission of water assessment reports ensures that science education and water-quality studies translate into river protection with positive results.
