Scientists Find Bat Colonies Surviving White Nose Syndrome

Scientists have some good news with regards to the mysterious ailment that has been killing millions of bats across the Northeast and even across North America. They are apparently finding small groups of bats that are surviving white nose syndrome. So far, scientists are as baffled about the fifteen colonies that they have found in Vermont, and the colonies elsewhere where they are finding healthy bats as they are about the origins of this deadly fungus.

The colonies that have survived in Vermont and Pennsylvania could eventually repopulate the region, and scientists are already planning to study the survivors in order to try and figure out why they are surviving. Next month, scientists will be meeting in Pennsylvania to discuss this avenue of research.

This is good news because of WNS, it was looking like bats in this region could have died out rather fast.
