The Wind Energy Data and Information Gateway (WENDI) serves the information needs of a broad range of wind energy stakeholders. The site supports the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind & Hydropower Technologies Program and is located in the Environmental Sciences Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The WENDI Gateway is "an integrated system for the archival, discovery, access, integration, and delivery of wind energy-related data" from multiple sources. As of March 2010 the WENDI Gateway has two main components:

The Wind Energy Metadata Clearinghouse (Wind Search), a continually growing metadata management and data access tool which allows users to search for wind energy-related resources from federal institutions such as the Department of Energy's national labs, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Geological Survey; organizations such as the American Wind Energy Association and National Wind Coordinating Collective; and various state governments, universities, and corporations. The search interface allows users to perform simple and advanced searches on wind energy-related metadata records, datasets, maps, web resources, and publications.

The Wind Energy WebGIS Application (WindGIS), a web-based visualization tool that allows users to browse, query, and display a wide variety of wind energy-related geospatial data for the United States, including locations of existing and planned wind power plants; National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) wind power classifications; infrastructure; land ownership, designation, and usage; topography and land cover type; river systems; soil and ecosystem type; and EPA-tracked contaminated sites suitable for development of utility- and community-scale wind energy.
