Helping Cleantech Start-ups with Strategic Messaging

December 5, 2011

The Colorado Center for Renewable Energy Economic Development (CREED) at U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) invites cleantech entrepreneurs to attend the next event in its Entrepreneur Series.

The Dec. 8 class, “Strategic Messaging: Finding the Words to Win,” will help cleantech entrepreneurs learn how to craft language about their companies that can be used in pitches, press releases, and on websites.

“If there's one thing we know about entrepreneurs, it's that they wear a lot of hats,” NREL Manager for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center Richard Adams said. “When it comes to cleantech startups, which are typically founded by scientists and engineers, the marketing hat is one that doesn't fit very well - at least not at first.”

Speakers for this workshop are Hollie Rogin and Maia Nilsson from Posit Partners. Posit Partners works with cleantech innovators to position them strategically and present them effectively as they compete for capital, talent, attention and revenue. This workshop will cover:

  • The key aspects of effective cleantech strategic messaging
  • How to structure effective messaging
  • How do I turn this into the things that I needed yesterday - homepage copy, talking points in an investor pitch, press releases, etc.

CREED’s Entrepreneur Series provides support for companies trying to get off the ground. The Entrepreneur Series builds a community among cleantech participants so they can draw on one another for expertise, support and networks.

CREED is a collaborative partnership between the NREL and the State of Colorado to expand clean tech entrepreneurship in Colorado. It is designed to bring together stakeholders and service providers that support the creation and growth of startup cleantech companies, contributing to economic development in Colorado.
