GENERAL GUIDES

Take a look at a map of our nation's national forests and grasslands, depicting areas where recreational opportunities may exist.  The markers and links on the map will take you to local forest/grassland web sites where additional information can be obtained. View the map.

"A Guide To Your National Forests" (PDF, 1.41MB) is a free brochure showing locations of national forests and grasslands along with contact information. Available from forest service offices.

FOREST VISITOR MAPS

"Visitor Maps" for each national forest and grassland provide forest-wide information on attractions, facilities, services, and opportunities . These maps are available to purchase from individual forests, the National Forest Store and many retail outlets. The most comprehensive source for maps is the US Geological Survey.

MOTOR VEHICLE USE MAPS

The following motor vehicle use maps have been prepared and issued under 36 CFR 212.56, and identify those roads, trails, and areas designated for motor vehicle use.

TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS

"Topographic Maps" provide the greatest level of detail and only cover small portions of a forest. These maps are available to purchase from many individual forest offices, and many retail outlets, or for purchase or download online from the US Geological Survey store.

SPECIALTY MAPS & BROCHURES

Many specialty maps and brochures are available from individual forests and the National Forest Store covering specific trails, Wilderness Areas and other special areas. The US Geological Survey also sells many other map products covering the national forests and grasslands.

MAP SERVICES

A collection of map services is available that allow you to view map images of Forest Service data from agency databases.
