Firewood
Restriction in Effect on State Land (Sep
1, 2011)
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds campers that only firewood
purchased at a state park or from a DNR-approved vendor may be brought onto any
DNR-administered lands. The firewood restriction is to help prevent the spread
of the emerald ash borer. This invasive beetle
kills trees, tunnels through the wood and cuts off the tree's water supply and
nutrients. Also see Firewood
Restrictions information from the Chippewa National Forest.
New
Law Aimed at Slowing the Spread of Aquatic
Invasive Species (Jun 3, 2011)
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
New laws were passed recently to help prevent
the spread of aquatic invasive species. Among
the changes will be more thorough watercraft
inspections and stronger regulations to prohibit
the transportation of invasive species. For
more information see Aquatic

Bill Would Dramatically Increase State Efforts to Prevent Spread of Aquatic Invasives (Mar 16, 2011)
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Governor Mark Dayton joined Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Commissioner Tom Landwehr, legislators, and aquatic invasive species stakeholders from around the state to announce a new legislative initiative (SF0847) that would help slow the spread of aquatic invasives, such as zebra mussels and Eurasian watermilfoil, by redoubling the state's efforts to combat the spread of these species in Minnesota lakes and rivers. The bill would authorize the DNR to provide more thorough watercraft inspections and enforcement, to increase penalties for violations, and to require training and permitting for lake service providers. Also, it would streamline the process of obtaining permits for large-scale control of invasive aquatic plants. The proposed bill and additional information are available on the Invasive Species Program site.

Members of the Minnesota Waters Aquatic
Invasive Species Task Force are laying the
groundwork for a statewide forum on aquatic
invasive plant management, tentatively scheduled
for Oct 2010. This event is being designed
to evaluate the science, policy and practice
guiding invasive aquatic plant management
and control in Minnesota, and to recommend
appropriate changes. National experts will
be invited to address the problem and make
recommendations to improve invasive aquatic
plant management in Minnesota. The Task force
