Federal and State Officials Announce Tree Survey Efforts in Ohio Due to the Discovery of Asian Longhorned Beetle: Area Residents Are Encouraged to Report Any Signs of ALB And to Avoid Moving Firewood (Jun 17, 2011)
USDA. APHIS. Plant Protection and Quarantine.
In Jun 2011, the Asian Longhorned Beetle was discovered in Tate Township in Clermont County. This invasive beetle has no known natural predators and poses a threat to Ohio’s hardwood forests (more than $2.5 billion in standing maple timber) and the state's $5 billion nursery industry which employs nearly 240,000 people. See Asian Longhorned Beetle from Ohio's Department of Agriculture for more information.

Invasive Species in Ohio: Pathways, Policies, and Costs (Oct 2008)
National Environmental Coalition on Invasive Species.
Prepared by: Union of Concerned Scientists.
This report finds that invasive species such as the emerald ash borer and zebra mussel already are causing significant damage in the state of Ohio. While the total cost of these non-native species is currently estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars a year, preventive legislation could significantly limit their economic and environmental impact.
