What is the Lake George Association?

As thousands flock to Lake George each year to enjoy its pristine waters, few understand they have the members of the LGA and their 125 years of protection to thank for those clean and clear waters.  The Lake George Association (LGA) is the leading citizen group responsible for conserving Lake George.  Established in 1885, the LGA is the oldest lake association in the nation.  Over the years, our balanced approach to lake management has ensured the Lake's exceptional water quality, as well as the environmental and economic viability of the entire watershed.

Our action-based programs are designed to conserve one of the most pristine and beautiful natural resources in our nation. A full-time staff, alongside countless members and community partners, are working hard today to protect tomorrow.  The staff specializes in communications, education, Geographic Information Systems, land use management, nuisance species control, stormwater project management and water quality.

The Lake George Association is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, conserving and improving the beauty and quality of Lake George. With the support of a large membership, including families, businesses, seasonal and full time residents, and visitors, today’s LGA is very active in three main program areas:
