Directory of Restoration Expertise

In 1998, the Society for Ecological Restoration started developing, compiling and maintaining an integrated and comprehensive database of U.S. ecological restoration expertise - local, regional, national and international individuals, organizations, agencies and companies for the Plant Conservation Alliance's Restoration Directory Project.

The Directory of Restoration Expertise is part of a project funded through the Plant Conservation Alliance (formerly the Native Plant Conservation Initiative).

Restoring Invaded Habitats

This page lists resources on restoring native habitats, particularly after invasive species removal.

Invasive species often leave behind evidence of their destructive presence such as nutrient-poor, inhospitable soils, chemical residues from herbicides and pesticides, land scars from mechanical removal operations, and sometimes unreversable changes in ecology and population dynamics. Invaded landscapes need to be restored and protected from future invasions.

CollapseAquatic Habitat Guidelines: An Integrated Approach to Marine, Freshwater, and Riparian Habitat Protection and Restoration
Description: The goal is to produce series of guidelines documents to facilitate the consistant application of good science and practice for resources and habitat management, project design, construction, and operation in, near, or affecting aquatic systems. Objectives of the Aquatic Habitat Guidelines program include: make the expertise of professional resource managers available to a wide variety of organizations and citizens who are seeking assistance in habitat protection and restoration activities, streamline local, state, and federal regulatory review of activities involving aquatic environments by providing guidelines based on best available science, provide a scientific basis for any future changes to current local policies or activities associated with aquatic resource in the state, maintain ongoing reviews and updates to the Aquatic Habitat Guidelines documents to reflect experience and emerging science and technical practice. The site contains white papers on the following topics: overwater structures, marine and estuarine shoreline modification issues, water crossings, channel design, ecological issues in floodplain and riparian corridors, dredging and gravel removal.
