Invasive Exotic Plant Management Tutorial
for Natural Lands Managers

Prepared by:
Mid-Atlantic Exotic Pest Plant Council, Inc.
Lisa L. Smith Principal Investigator

Over the past decade or two, the conservation community has developed and made available resources for managers, educators, legislators, etc. who are interested in the topic of invasive exotic plants and their impact on natural lands.

Land managers who are faced with the daunting task of managing or controlling these species on natural lands rely on these resources in order to implement effective management, control and education programs. The amount of information available is huge and wading through it and processing it to get what is needed can be as daunting as the invasive plant problems that managers face!

The Invasive Exotic Plant (IEP) Management Tutorial for Natural Lands Managers provides a "one-stop-shop" for natural resource managers who are interested in organizing on-the-ground efforts to prevent, manage and control IEP's.

The purpose is to provide sufficient background information on the problem and then provide management guidance in the form of a standard management process or approach so that managers can more readily apply the information to their specific invasive plant problem.

Additional Information about the development and the usage of this tutorial

The tutorial is designed to allow the user to approach the resource information in two ways. Information can be accessed by simply clicking on a topic in the Table of Contents on the left navigation area. This will be useful for users who are already familiar with invasive plant management concepts or return users who have previously used the tutorial and are familiar with the process, but are needed additional information. Information can also be accessed through a set of Guidance Questions listed below. These questions are intended to "walk" a user through a process for management with the desired outcome being that the user, in this case, possibly someone new to the issues and concepts, will become better equipped to approach their management challenge in a systematic way which, theoretically, which provides the greatest chance for success.
