Report Brown Treesnake Sightings
REPORT SNAKE SIGHTINGS: 24 HOURS-A-DAY HOTLINE
Any snake sightings on islands thought to lack snakes* should be reported
immediately to:
Snake Hotline (24 hours): 671-777-HISS (4477)
This is a Guam cell phone number.
If you get a voice-mail greeting, please leave a message, and then use the following landline telephone number:
USGS Brown Treesnake Research Lab, Guam: 671-355-4015
Both lines reach the Brown Treesnake Rapid Response Team Coordinator:
James Stanford
USGS Brown Treesnake Research Lab
P.O 8255, MOU-3
Dededo,
Guam 96912
james_stanford@usgs.gov
Those sighting a snake on Hawaii should also contact:
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Brown Tree Snake Coordinator
P.O. Box 50167
Honolulu, HI 96850
808-643-PEST (7378)
FOR U.S. MAINLAND CALLERS: Because of the great time zone difference with Guam, please leave a message using the hotline phone number and then contact Gordon Rodda or Bob Reed at the Fort Collins Science Center in Fort Collins, Colorado (contact information below).
Sightings should also be reported to local government officials, and
when possible, the snake should be killed and preserved for positive identification.
Specimens can be preserved in 70% ethanol or 50% isopropyl alcohol, available
in any drug store. If a dead snake is found, it should be placed in a
plastic bag and frozen until it can be transferred to a local biologist
or government agency. Place a label inside the bag with documentation
including the date, who discovered the snake, where it was found, and
any additional information on the circumstances surrounding its discovery.
Preserved specimens, photographs, or other information should be sent
to:

Fort Collins, CO 80526
Office phone: 970-226-9471

* On the island of Guam, brown treesnakes are well-established and a multi-agency control effort is currently in place. For this reason, sightings of brown treesnakes on Guam do not need to be reported. However, if you are on Guam and see a snake that you think is a species other than a brown treesnake or a blind snake, then this should be reported promptly to the hotline.
