First detected in Texas cotton in 1917. The source
was traced to cottonseed shipped from Mexico to
Texas oil millsin 1916 (Spears 1968, USDA 1977).

from northern Mexico naturally or through infested
shipments
Impact: Adults lay eggs on
cotton bolls; once hatched, the larvae eat the seeds and damage the
fibers of the cotton
