Continental Dialogue on Non-Native Forest Insects & Diseases

Continental Dialogue Meeting
October 5-6, 2011
Millennium Harvest House -- Boulder, CO

The Continental Dialogue Steering Committee is pleased to invite you to join other leaders from the Rocky Mountains and around the country who are working to address the growing threat to North American forests from non-native insects and diseases. The Seventh Continental Dialogue meeting will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, October 5-6, 2011 in Boulder, Colorado at the Millennium Harvest House. The Steering Committee has worked diligently to include a host of emerging issues in the meeting agenda. The meeting also provides participants the option of attending an exciting field trip exploring impacts of thousand cankers disease locally in the urban environment and the implications for the forest ecosystem in the East.

The meeting will serve as an opportunity for this diverse group to build on the successes of the last year and plan for the future of the Dialogue. Specific objectives include: cultivating collaborations toward action to address the threat of non-native forest insects and diseases; look for opportunities to link state and local actions to Continental Dialogue efforts to enhance national policies and strategies; expand the effectiveness and reach of public and private entities, and citizens, in the battle against the non-native insects and diseases killing their trees; and identify and agree on needed actions for the Continental Dialogue to take in the upcoming year. Current panel topics being considered include: Applying What we Know to Managing the Firewood Pathway; Climate Change Impacts on Forests and the Spread of Invasives; and Technology Applications for Managing Invasives. We invite you to join us in this important effort.

Field Trip

The Seventh Dialogue Meeting will include a field trip the morning of Wednesday, October 5th to visit sites that highlight the discovery and response to the thousand cankers disease in Boulder, CO. Field trip attendees will gather at the meeting room at the Millennium Harvest House on October 5th. Following a presentation, field trip attendees will divide into two groups and board buses for the tour of the thousand cankers disease sites. The field trip will conclude between 12:15 and 12:30 pm when the buses return to the Millennium Harvest House.
