Conserving native plant communities and wildlife habitat in the National Wildlife Refuge System involves managing existing invasive plant infestations and preventing the establishment of problematic plant species. The challenges associated with the invasive plant management process are numerous and complex—they require the understanding and integration of ecology, biology, social science, and technology, all under operational constraints. Developing a strategic approach based on this knowledge can guide invasive plant management toward achieving goals of desired vegetation conditions.
