Various international workshops have been held to assess the global invasive alien species threats, impacts and needs. These workshops resulted in the following declarations and identified the need for information sharing, capacity building, financial support, research, expertise and other resources for addressing the invasive alien species threat.

More than 500 invasive species specialists from more than 40 countries participated in the Congress, to exchange ideas on improving the management of biological invasions at national, regional, and global levels.

Bariloche Declaration on Invasive Alien Conifers in South America
Southern Hemisphere Network on Conifer Invasions.
Following an international meeting on conifer invasions held in Bariloche, Argentina, from May 10-12, 2007, the undersigned participants urge South American countries to act against conifer invasions throughout the continent.

Workshop on Development of Regional Invasive Alien Species Information Hubs, Including Requisite Taxonomic Services, In North America and Southern Africa (Davis, California).

The workshop produced the Davis Declaration to focus international attention and resources on development and coordination of IAS information and taxonomic services, and a report (in preparation) containing specific recommendations for strengthening IAS-related taxonomic capacity and for implementing a global network of regional information hubs.
