Submit your question to HGIC's staff of experts!

Complete our question submission form and receive a personal answer to your question. If you are trying to identify a plant or insect, please send a digital photo if possible.

Thanks to a IPM Special Projects grant from the USDA we are expanding this service to include all of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. This officially adds Virginia. This service is a successful example of a partnership with USDA-CSREES and regional programming.

You can send us digital photos. The files must be 500KB or less. There is a space near the bottom of the question submission form to attach the photo.

This program was started by a grant from the Northeast Regional Integrated Pest Management Grants Program, which is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.

Enter the description of your plant or insect problem and your question:
In your description please include any relevant details, such as:

  • Name, age and/or size of plant
  • When the problem was first noted
  • What part of the plant is affected?
  • Have symptoms progressed or changed?
  • Growing conditions (full sun, part shade, shade, windy, salt spray, etc.)
  • Primary soil type (clay, loam, sandy)
  • Soil Problems (compacted soil or poor drainage; i.e., water retention in the soil)
  • Chemical applications (pesticides & fertilizers)
  • Were plants originally burlapped or container grown?
  • Has there been recent construction and/or excavation?

Include your name and mailing address if you are requesting a soil test bag or wish to be added to the mailing list for the HGIC newsletter. Otherwise, please do not include personal information.
