Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program Grants

In addition to its voluntary membership program, the Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program (PESP) provided grant funding to promote Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices until September 30, 2010. Since at least 1996, EPA had annually awarded approximately $500,000 through the PESP Regional grants program. This multifaceted program encompassed IPM projects across both agricultural and community (urban, school, etc.) settings.

What Became of the PESP Regional Grants?
In Fiscal Year 2011, EPA reviewed all of its grant programs related to IPM and pesticide risk reduction. As a result, several changes were made including:

  • creating new competitive funding opportunities, such as the Regional School IPM Grants,
  • refocusing existing programs, such as changing the PESP Regional Grants into the agriculture-only focused Regional Agricultural Stewardship Grants, and
  • concluding successful programs that had accomplished their mission, such as the Strategic Agricultural Initiative Grants.

What Types of Projects Did PESP Grants Support?
The Pesticide Stewardship DatabaseExit EPA disclaimer is the public data repository for all grants funded by PestWise partnership programs. The database includes historic information on all of the projects funded through the PESP Regional Grants program. The database is searchable by EPA Region, pesticide, crop, state, and fiscal year funded.
