PROTECT LAKE TAHOE

Tahoe Boat Inspections are mandatory and vital to stopping the spread of aquatic invasive species. Boaters play a crucial role in the effort to keep our waters clean and free from destructive aquatic invaders such as the quagga and zebra mussels, New Zealand mudsnail and many other damaging species.

Tahoe Boat Inspections Move to Roadside Stations
Now with five roadside inspection stations and new high-efficiency decontamination equipment, all boats without an intact Tahoe inspection seal will be directed to the roadside locations to speed up launch times at the ramps.

Preparing your Boat
An Aquatic Invasive Species inspection or an intact inspection seal are required BEFORE you arrive at any Lake Tahoe boat launch facility this year. Clean, Drain and Dry your watercraft. Drain your bilge, ballast tanks, live wells and any storage compartments. If you have an outdrive, lower the outdrive on the engine to release any residual water. Inspection only takes a few minutes if you arrive prepared!

Transport companies with large or oversized boats please call 1-888-824-6267 seventy-two hours in advance to schedule an appointment.

Boat Inspection Fees, Stickers & Wire Seals
There is a fee for Tahoe boat inspections according to boat size. After passing inspection, you will receive a 2011 Tahoe inspection sticker and a Tahoe wire seal that attaches your boat to your trailer. Stickered and sealed boats are ready to launch!

Why the need for Tahoe boat inspections?
Watercraft are the largest vectors for spreading aquatic invasive species (AIS) like quagga and zebra mussels into new waterways, making boat inspections a vital part of protecting Lake Tahoe and other nearby water bodies.
