CIO.gov is the website of the U.S. CIO and the Federal CIO Councils, serving as a central resource for information on Federal IT. By showcasing examples of innovation, identifying best practices, and providing a forum for Federal IT leaders, CIO.gov keeps the public informed about how our Government is working to close the technology gap between the private and public sectors.

Mission & Vision

The U.S. CIO supports the President’s goals of greater transparency, accountability, and public participation in Government through the use of innovative IT. Key goals include assuring information security, protecting individual privacy, and saving taxpayer dollars.  More ›

Leadership

The U.S. CIO position was established within the White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to provide leadership and oversight for IT spending throughout the Federal Government. In addition, each Federal agency has its own CIO, as established by the Clinger-Cohen Act of 1996. More ›

Accomplishments

The launch of the IT Dashboard in June 2009 ushered in a new era of Federal IT. The IT Dashboard not only offers an unprecedented level of transparency into how Federal IT dollars are spent, but also serves as a tool for policy and budgetary decisions—helping the Government determine whether projects should be streamlined, turned around, or cancelled. More ›
