Daily HealthBeat Tip

Moms in the middle.

From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I'm Ira Dreyfuss with HHS HealthBeat.

"Moms in the Middle" -- mothers who care for an older adult in addition to raising children -- have a resource to make their dual roles a bit easier

Eldercare Locator, funded by the U.S. Administration on Aging, is a first step to finding resources for older adults and their caregivers in any U.S. community. And it's free.

The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging manages the service, and the group's chief executive officer, Sandy Markwood, says it's not always easy for some moms to seek help:

"They need to be able to ask for help and, sometimes, what's a very difficult thing to do is for people to say, I need help with my children, I need help with my older adult,' and realizing that there are people out there who are willing to help, if asked." (12 seconds)

You can call the Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116 or go online at www.eldercare.gov.
