About Physician Compare

You can find physicians and healthcare professionals who:

  • Are enrolled in Medicare, including their names, addresses, phone numbers, specialties, and genders
  • Speak languages other than English
  • Are affiliated with certain hospitals
  • Accept Medicare Assignment

You won't find physicians and healthcare professionals who:

  • Don't receive payment (aren't enrolled) for items or services from Medicare.
  • Have opted out of Medicare.
  • Sign private contracts with Medicare beneficiaries. Under private contracts, beneficiaries give up their Medicare benefits and agree to pay the physician's charges.

When using Physician Compare, you should remember to:

  • Contact the physicians you are interested in to make sure they are accepting new Medicare patients.
  • Check that the address is correct when you call for an appointment. We make every effort to make sure the physician information is up-to-date; however, we suggest that you verify the address before visiting the physician or healthcare professional.
  • Check for updates: some new physician practices may not show up right away. If a physician recently enrolled, they will be added to this directory within three to six months after they update the PECOS System.
