Search Builder

The Advanced Search page includes a feature to search by individual fields in the MEDLINE/PubMed record. [Show Me]

Any searchable field can be selected from the menus. [Show Me]

Author, Journal and MeSH fields include an autocomplete feature. Start typing the name, title or subject of interest, and select from the list that appears. [Show Me]

As you type or select terms, the entries are automatically added to the search box. [Show Me]

For fields without an autocomplete feature, simply enter the terms you want to search. [Show Me]

Select AND, OR or NOT to combine your search with any search components already in the search box. [Show Me] For an explanation, see the tutorial section on Boolean operators.

To see and select from a list of all values in the database in a specific field, use the Show Index list feature. [Show Me] Enter a few characters to jump to that point in the alphabetical list. The number in parentheses reflects the number of records in PubMed that include that term.

You may select multiple values from a single index to be combined in an OR statement by holding your <ctrl> key while you make your selections. [Show Me]

When you have completed building your search, click the Search button. [Show Me]
