Top U.S. Education Officials to Visit Salt Lake Wednesday as Part of 2012 Cross-Country Back-to-School Bus Tour Promoting Education

David Bergeron, acting assistant secretary for the U.S. Education Department’s Office of Postsecondary Education, and Brenda Girton-Mitchell, director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, will visit Salt Lake City on Wednesday, Sept. 12 to engage in events spotlighting classroom success, college affordability and the link between education and jobs.

Arizona, Guam, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Utah to Receive Funds to Support Education Jobs

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Arizona will receive $211.8 million, Guam will receive $20 million, New Hampshire will receive $40.9 million, North Carolina will receive $298 million, Pennsylvania will receive $387.8 million, and Utah will receive $101 million to support education jobs.

Utah to Receive $17.4 Million to Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Utah will receive $17.4 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These funds are part of the $3.5 billion that will be made available to states this spring from money set aside in the 2009 budget and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Utah To Receive $2.63 Million To Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest-Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Utah will receive $2.63 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. The funds are part of $546 million available to states for the SIG program in fiscal year 2010. In fiscal year 2009, states received a total of $3.5 billion for the SIG program.

Utah to Receive More Than $129 Million in Additional Recovery Funds

U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that an additional $129,552,001 is now available for Utah under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. To date, Utah has received $741,979,396 through the Recovery Act. The state recently reported that recovery dollars have been used to provide funding for more than 1,900 education jobs from Oct. 1 to Dec.
