  15. A Tsunami Advisory is in effect for coastal areas of NORTHERN California. Read the latest here: www.tsunami.gov
  16. Are you keeping tabs on Hurricane Sandy? Know anyone that may be affected? Emergency officials in the East are doing what they can to get the word out and encourage preparedness, but every extra bit helps.
If you or someone you know may be impacted by Hurricane Sandy, here are a few things to do today:

    - Get some extra cash out at the ATM today. If the power goes out, banks/ATMs may be offline for some time.
    - Make a plan for how you’ll keep...
your cell phone charged if you lose power for several days. Picking up a solar or hand-crank charger for your phone is a good idea.
    - High winds are expected across a wide area (as the image above shows). Protect your home/business – cover windows, clean gutters, trim trees.
    - Get to the store today for emergency supplies – water, nonperishable food, batteries, flashlight, etc.
    - Visit www.Ready.gov/hurricanes or m.fema.gov on your phone for more hurricane safety tips.

  21. Day 5 of California Flood Preparedness Week highlights flash flooding! Find more info at www.water.ca.gov/ca-flood-preparedness/
Day 5 of California Flood Preparedness Week highlights Flash Flooding. Flash flooding is the number one weather-related killer in the U.S. A flash flood is a sudden, rapid flooding of low-lying areas typically caused by intense rainfall. ...
Flash floods can also occur from the collapse of a man-made structure such as a levee or a dam. Most flash flood deaths occur when people attempt to drive through rushing water or down a flooded road. Six inches of water is deep enough to stall a car or cause the driver to lose control. Two feet of water is enough to float most cars and SUVs. Once buoyant the vehicle is easily washed downstream and rolled over. Drivers should remember this simple saying: “Turn Around – Don’t Drown”™. For more information on Turn Around – Don’t Drown go to: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/water/tadd/.
