Data Center Closures – West
Data Center Closures – West
Federal Government Finances and Employment
fddci, ...
The Administration has expanded the data center consolidation initiative to include data centers of any size, rather than just those 500 square feet and above. And as we expand the initiative we are also expanding our goal. Moving forward, the government’s goal will be to close at least 40% of identified data centers, consistent with our original consolidation goal. That means we’ll be looking to consolidate at least 1200 data centers by the end of 2015 – a goal that requires us to continue aggressively rooting out duplication and waste in our expanded baseline of 3,133 data centers. This update also reflects a shift from calendar year to fiscal year reporting.
This dataset reflects information provided by the agencies. All questions or inquiries should be directed to the specific agencies. The FY2010 through FY2012 dataset provides a list of planned or closed data centers by agency and by city/state location since the FDCCI started in February 2010. The Data Center Consolidation Task Force meets monthly to review the progress of each consolidation project and ensure government-wide alignment among agency efforts, where appropriate. The Task Force comprises data center program managers, facilities managers, and sustainability officers from 24 agencies that work together to share progress toward individual agency goals. As its work evolves, the Task Force will serve as a "community of practice" for agency CIOs and data center program managers to share best practices and enhance consolidation effectiveness. See collateral information about the FDCCI, including the definition of a data center and other FAQs (http://www.cio.gov/pages.cfm/page/FDCCI ).

FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer - Web Map Service (WMS)
Geography and Environment
Base Flood Elevation, structure, Riverine Flooding, ...
"FEMA NFHL" is a general application that provides for the display of flood hazard zones, floodways, Coastal Barrier Resources System and Otherwise Protected Area units, community boundaries and names, base flood elevations, cross sections and coastal transects and their labels, hydraulic and flood control structures, and Flood Insurance Rate Map and Letter of Map Revision boundaries and numbers. Additional reference layers include the status of NFHL data availability, point locations for Letters of Map Amendment (LOMAs) and Letters of Map Revision Based on Fill (LOMR-Fs), Q3 base flood, and sub-basin hydrologic units. You control the information displayed by turning layers on and off. A basic knowledge of Google Earth and FEMA flood hazard information will help users of this application. The name of each layer is hyperlinked to a description of the layer, the map symbols used for the layer, and links to other FEMA web sites relevant to the layer. If a layer is turned on, clicking the text below the name of the layer (text that starts with "Draws at...") zooms the Google Earth view to a sample display of the layer. Layers are organized for display at one or more of three "eye altitude" (map scale) ranges in Google Earth: status maps and subbasins at high altitudes, regional overviews of flood hazards at medium altitudes, and detailed flood hazard maps at low altitudes. Click on the hyperlinked folder name of the application to see the altitudes at which data in the layers are displayed.

National Crime Victimization Survey, 2008 [Record-Type Files]
National Crime Victimization Survey, 2008 [Record-Type Files]
Law Enforcement, Courts, and Prisons
theft, violent crimen, intimate partner violence, ...
The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) Series, previously called the National Crime Survey (NCS), has been collecting data on personal and household victimization through an ongoing survey of a nationally-representative sample of residential addresses since 1972. The NCVS was designed with four primary objectives: (1) to develop detailed information about the victims and consequences of crime, (2) to estimate the number and types of crimes both reported and not reported to the police, (3) to provide uniform measures of selected types of crimes, and (4) to permit comparisons over time and types of areas. The survey categorizes crimes as "personal" or "property." Personal crimes include rape and sexual assault, robbery, aggravated and simple assault, and purse-snatching/pocket-picking, while property crimes include burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft, and vandalism. Each respondent is asked a series of screen questions designed to determine whether she or he was victimized during the six-month period preceding the interview. A "household respondent" is also asked to report on crimes against the household as a whole (e.g., burglary, motor vehicle theft). The data include type of crime, month, time, and location of the crime, relationship between victim and offender, characteristics of the offender, self-protective actions taken by the victim during the incident and results of those actions, consequences of the victimization, type of property lost, whether the crime was reported to police and reasons for reporting or not reporting, and offender use of weapons, drugs, and alcohol. Basic demographic information such as age, race, gender, and income is also collected, to enable analysis of crime against various subpopulations.

The National Weather Service (NWS) supports the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow (CoCoRaHS) network. CoCoRaHS is a unique, non-profit, community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, snow and hail). The network has over 6,500 observers in 26 states. Once trained, volunteers collect data using standardized, low cost measuring tools such as a 4-inch diameter high capacity rain gage, snow boards to measure snow, and aluminum foil-wrapped Styrofoam hail pads in some states. This site has been compiled by NWS and contains the results of the observations and data collection activities of these volunteers across a broad swath of the United States.
