CMS Announces Primary Care Participants in the Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative - Aug. 28, 2012

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on Aug. 22 the 500 primary care practices that will participate in the Comprehensive Primary Care Initiative. Under this initiative, CMS will pay the participating primary care practices a care management fee to support coordinated services to Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries. At the same time, participating private, state, federal and other insurance plans will offer enhanced payment to these practices as they work to deliver high-quality primary care to beneficiaries. CMS chose the practices based on factors including their use of health information technology and recognition of advanced primary care delivery. CMS estimates that more than 300,000 Medicare beneficiaries will be served by 2,000 practitioners through this initiative.
