CMS Extends Deadline for State Innovation Models Initiative - Aug. 28, 2012

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will extend the application deadline for the State Innovation Models Initiative from Sept. 17 to Sept. 24 at 5:00 pm ET, due to scheduled maintenance of grants.gov. This initiative will fund states as they work to implement innovative multipayer payment and delivery models that lower costs and improve quality. Interested states can apply for two types of awards: Model Testing or Model Design. The Model Testing awards will go to states that have already developed innovative models and are in the testing process; the Model Design awards will provide funding and technical assistance to states as they look for the best model for them. Up to five states will be chosen in the initial round of the Model Testing awards and up to 25 states for the Model Design awards. A second opportunity will most likely be offered next year. CMS will host a webinar on Aug. 28 at 3:00 pm ET to provide more information about the application process.
