Rep. Larry Kissell's Farm Tour Comes to Davidson County

LINWOOD, NC – Rep. Larry Kissell (NC-08) visited farms across the region last week, including Goldprint Farm, Beallgray Farm and Hillcrest Farm in Davidson County.

Kissell was joined for the visit by George Smith, President of the Davidson County Farm Bureau, Edgar Miller, Director of Government Relations of Conservation Trust for North Carolina, and Jason Walser, Executive Director of Land Trust for Central North Carolina. The tour focused on the importance of promoting agricultural research and protecting North Carolina farms and farmers.

“It was great to see the different operations on these farms,” said Kissell. “Farmers throughout North Carolina work hard to ensure that we are well fed and we must do everything we can to protect them, their farms and the way of life they make possible. I will always advocate for our farmers and make sure that folks in Washington remember how important North Carolina agriculture is here at home, and beyond the Carolinas.”

Smith discussed the visit and expressed the benefits of the tours for both Kissell and the farmers.

“It was a great trip,” said Smith. “I found it to be very beneficial to all sides. It was great to hear what has been going on in Washington, and to have the opportunity to talk to Congressman Kissell about the importance of protecting North Carolina agriculture.”

Miller thanked Kissell for his visit and his commitment to protecting North Carolina agriculture.

“The conservation community appreciates Congressman Kissell's strong support for these farm families and the programs in the Farm Bill that help keep them economically viable,” said Miller. “While it's important to protect the land itself, we really have to save the farmer to save the farmland. Congressman Kissell understands the economic importance of North Carolina agriculture to local communities in his district. We thank the Congressman for coming down and taking the time to meet with these folks and are really pleased with his visit.”
