Congressional Art Competition

The 9th Congressional Art Competition provides an excellent opportunity to encourage and recognize the rich artistic talents of the high school students in my district.  Each year, I look forward to seeing the work of our local, talented students and to meeting the contest winner in D.C.  All high school students in the 9th Congressional District are allowed to compete in the competition.  Once the 2012 application information has been released, please encourage your students to participate in this worthwhile program.

Initiated by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, the Annual Congressional Art Competition is an event that allows high school students from all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories to showcase their artistic ability. As a result, the winning work from each Congressional district is displayed in an eleven month exhibit in the Cannon tunnel that leads into the U.S. Capitol.

The winning entry from the Ninth District will not only be recognized at the local level but will also be displayed in Washington, D.C.  The winner’s artwork will join other pieces from congressional districts around the country in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol.  The Ninth District’s winning student is invited to attend a ceremony in Washington, D.C. to unveil the winning artwork from around the nation.
