Under Secretary Martha Kanter, Chief of Staff Joanne Weiss and Assistant Secretary Brenda Dann-Messier to Visit Cheyenne to Highlight Role of Career and Technical Education in Strengthening the Economy

The U.S. Department of Education’s Under Secretary Martha Kanter, Chief of Staff Joanne Weiss, and Assistant Secretary Brenda Dann-Messier will travel to Cheyenne, Wyo., on Friday, Sept. 14 for a visit to Laramie County Community College, where they will participate in a town hall on education and the economy moderated by Laramie County Community College President Joe Schaffer. The town hall will be held in a wind turbine laboratory with an audience of college faculty, staff, students, community members, and education and training stakeholders.

Immediately preceding the town hall, Dann-Messier will host a roundtable discussion with career and technical education faculty, staff, and students from the college and from the Laramie County School District.

These Wyoming events are part of Education Drives America, the U.S. Department of Education’s third annual back-to-school bus tour. Secretary Duncan and his senior leadership team are crisscrossing the country from Sept. 12-21 for a series of events that reinforce the message that Education Drives America. In addition to these events, some of the other stops include Redwood City and Sacramento, Calif.; Reno, Nev.; Salt Lake City; Denver; Topeka, Kan.; Kansas City, Mo.; St. Louis; Evansville, Ind.; Lexington, Ky.; Charleston, W.Va.; Roanoke, Va.; Richmond, Va.; and Washington, D.C.
